paint by pixels

I hope you had the joy of creating an awesome painting of a bouquet of flowers as a kid just by filling in the gaps on horrible newsprint with the correct color. I also hope it stayed on the family fridge for months until it was joined by an amazing crayon, marker, & macaroni masterpiece.

Enough of the memory lane trip & time for a modern twist on the paint by numbers idea. I think this twist is awesome not only because the small sense of accomplishment I get when completing a task but, it is a community effort!

Painted with Pixels was created by iam8bit Productions for the "The Game Developers Conference"  in 2012. The idea is each of the conference’s attendees would receive a 2″ pixel, either cyan, magenta, yellow, or black and would get to place his or her pixel on the wall in a corresponding square.

This is a "Why didn't I think of that?" project. I was tasked with coming up with a community project for Dell on Earth Day and it was not nearly as cool as this. Well, it was cool but not 20 feet by 8 feet of dragons & monsters cool.

movie buff game

Fellow movie nerds, put your knowledge to the test with the "Famous objects from classic movies" game. Its fun, simple, and really well designed. Guess what movie the object is from, "Wheel of Fortune" style.

Frescobol, you are beautiful (reblog)

Frescobol, the Brazilian paddleball beach sport dating back to the 1940s, looks a bit like ping-pong without the table. The bats look slightly similar, the ball  somewhat bigger.

part 2, design nerd iPhone apps

I want to start off by asking, don't you wish you could bookmark apps right in the app store on your phone? There are apps that can do that for you but that should just be a feature right in the regular app store. Apple, you should be on top of this stuff and not out making pads.

Anyhoo, to all of my iPhone loving designers out there this is for you. I found more great apps that I wanted to share.

I like to start out with FREE things first. A good free app makes the day better.

WordFu (iPhone App)

I am back in the iPhone loop. I bought the 3Gs iPhone as a happy birthday to me. I have to feed my inner nerd here and there. :)

I am a word game lover and I stumbled upon a great gem a few weeks ago called WordFu. If you like ninja fight sounds, word games, and a beautifully designed interface you will love this freaking game. One of the cool things about this game is, after making words with the little blocks you get to do a ninja chop (shake the phone) to lock in your word. How cool is that? Oh, did I mention there is a free version that is almost as cool as the paid app?
